We had a Trilingual Seminar “Let’s Learn Korean in English!” at the World Plaza on Jun. 26. Hana-san, CIR of Saga Prefecture Government International Affairs Division, tought us basic Hangeul using English.



This seminar is so unique that NHK TV news crew visited to cover us. And the reporter said "This is the first time I ever saw a seminar like this in Saga.”



At first we learned the difference between Korean language “Hangugeo” and "Hangul." Hangugeo is the Korean Lunguege.
Hangul is the native alphabet of the Korean language. Han means great and gul means letters. So Hangul means great letters.



King Sejong the Great invented Hangul in 15 century. At that time People used Chinese character as their language in Korean peninsula. But most people couldn’t understand Chinese character because it was too difficult to understand.



Korean and Japanese are very similar. Especially some words related in Chinese character sound very similar. Such as Gagu (furniture), Undong (exercise), Sanso (oxygen), Gaban (bag) and Gyesan (calculate). And sentence structure is quite similar.
Like this;
Jeoneun OOO imnida.
私 は 　　OOO です。
Mannaseo bangapseumnida.
会えて 　　うれしいです。



We studied Korean Must-Know Phrases!
Greetings;
“An-nyeong ha-se-yo.” (Hello. : Annyeong = 安寧)
“Jeo-neun OOO im-nida.” (I am OOO.)
“Man-na-seo ban-gap-seum-ni-da.” (Nice to meet you.)



Goodbye;
“An-nyeong-hi gye-se-yo” (When you are the one who is leaving.)
“An-nyeong-hi ga-se-yo” (When you are the one who is staying)



Gratitude;
“Gam-sa hap-ni-da.” (Thank you.)
“Cheon-man-e-yo.” (You are well come.)



Yes ＆ No
“Ne.” (Yes.)
“Aniyo” (No.)

We also learned Basic Vowels, Complex Vowels, Basic Consonants and Double Consonants.






"Let's Learn Korean in English" is held on Thursday, twice a month, from 15:00 to 16:30 at World Plaza.
